Musical Instruments for Children, Inc. is a private non-profit 501 (c) (3) agency dedicated to collecting used or new musical instruments from citizens in the community. We give them to indigent children and also school systems. The school systems give them to children who cannot afford to buy a musical instrument and would like to play one in their school's band or orchestra. The agency also accepts cash donations to be used to fix the used musical instruments we collect to get them back in shape.
The agency is directed by Marjorie Soforenko, an attorney and social worker licensed in Massachusetts. She is also a licensed guidance counselor in Massachusetts and North Carolina.
Musical Instruments for Children, Inc. was started in Massachusetts. Between 2000-2003 the Board o Directors collected 60 used musical instruments and music parphenalia - music stands, clarient reeds, etc. - and gave them to three school systems in Massachusetts - Framingam, Springfield and Agawam. The instruments that were collected were violins, flutes, trombones, a harpsicord, clarinets, trumpets and other instruments. Two of the clarinets were from two citizens in Texas who saw the website and mailed them to a member of the Board of Directors.
Musical Instruments for Children, Inc. is now located in North Carolina. The musical instruments collected will go to school systems and individual children in North Carolina and Massachusetts.
